Patients with thinner corneas may suffer less than ideal results, in LASIK surgery. Uneven flap edges may lead to higher order aberration or astigmatism. Post operational treatment is required in almost 5% of the cases.

Remarkably, there is a more rapid improvement in vision and decreased discomfort with LASIK since the surface epithelial cells have been preserved and do not need to grow again. This is indisputably the reason that LASIK has become the most preferable corrective surgery for both doctors and patients. However, in some patients, PRK is a safer alternative to LASIK that may promise better outcomes. Patients who might benefit from PRK include those with less corneal tissue or in some patients with corneal irregularities or scars.

During monovision lasik, surgeons use a tiny blade to create a flap on the surface of the cornea, or clear front layer of the eye. Then, a laser is used to reshape the cornea so that it will focus light more efficiently. In order to complete monovision lasik, the corneal flap is put back in place. In monovision lasik, the eye that is corrected for distance objects is the dominant eye. It is easy to determine which eye is dominant by raising a thumb. You need to hold the thumb in front of both eyes, and block an object with the thumb while both eyes remain open. Once the object is blocked, close one eye or the other, and the eye that cannot see the object is the dominant eye.

Monovision LASIK initially was used off label, as it had not received official FDA approval as a remedy to correct presbyopia. However, it received approval from FDA in July 2007. You Monovision lasik is a procedure that permanently corrects one eye for distance vision, while correcting the other eye for near vision. It is the most recent development in presbyopia treatment. Monovision lasik is most ideal for the patients who are mildly hyperopic.

Another Lasik problem for older patients is difficulty with nearer vision after the surgery due to the loss of ability to hold. This usually happens due to the loss of elasticity of the lens of the eye, making it impossible to maintain a clear image as the objects are moved closer.

There has been an increase in the number of older patients who demand for Lasik surgery. Since these patients represent special challenges, they are continuously exposed to lasik problems. Increased age has been previously associated with poorer final clarity of vision, as measured on an eye chart. The case histories of around 700 consecutive laser eye surgeries, performed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, reveal that there was 20/40 chances of visual acuteness for 91 to 100% of patients.

Wavefront Lasik technology is pioneering because it has the prospective to improve not only how much you can see, but also how well you can see. This has immensely benefited the patients in terms of contrast sensitivity and fine detail.

Many patients nowadays do not realize that the eye is an imperfect optical system. As light rays pass through the individual optical components of the eye, they are subject to being twisted by the flaw found in the cornea and the crystalline lens. In order to achieve a normal corneal re-shaping, the higher order optical aberrations are measured with the help of Wavefront lasik system, as this technology can diagnose and measure aberrations that no other system can even see. It is important to understand that without a Wavefront Lasik diagnosis, it is impossible for a doctor to accurately determine which surgical method is worth considering for a patient.

Hence, you need to be sure to find a surgeon who is experienced in performing Astigmatism Lasik. Astigmatism Lasik openings, unless extremely short or long, typically are neutral with respect to the spherical equivalent. Newer laser software is now able to correct hyperopic astigmatism by steepening the flat axis. Although an ideal goal of Astigmatism Lasik is to correct all of the astigmatism, a more realistic goal is to make the use of contact lenses or glasses comfortably

Not everyone is eligible for laser vision correction. There can be some general conditions that make the surgery either inadvisable or even impossible.

Laser vision correction is a most advanced procedure, wherein the curvature of the eye is reshaped in a matter of just a few minutes. This is done with the help of computer-controlled instruments and advanced excimer laser. Vision is improved by focusing light rays more directly on the retina to create a clearer image. The objective of laser vision correction is to improve your uncorrected vision and decrease the dependency on corrective lenses. Custom laser vision procedures treat both lower and higher order aberration to potentially achieve a higher quality of vision. Many people achieve 100% vision through laser vision surgery without glasses or contact lenses..

Recovery from a corrective eye surgery can last anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of months. Symptoms that follow post-surgery include: sensitivity to light, blurry vision, minor discomfort or dark eyes.

Clear vision depends on how well the cornea and lens allow light rays to fall onto the retina. Light rays must be bent to focus on the retina. The retina being light-sensitive, creates an inclination from the light rays that are sent through the optic nerve to the brain. If the shape of the cornea or eye is not normal, then vision becomes blurred as light does not fall properly on the retina. This is known as a refractive error. Such errors are usually corrected by corrective eye surgery commonly known as reflective eye surgery. Refractive errors can include myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia.
